The State of the Country

Honduras, in the north-central part of Central America, has a Caribbean as well as a Pacific coastline. Guatemala is to the west, El Salvador to the South, and Nicaragua to the east. Like its neighbors, Honduras is experiencing tremendous changes: an expanding tourist economy, a maturing political scene, and the whole globalization thing, including free trade agreements. Honduras remains deeply entrenched in a two-front war against gangs and HIV/AIDS. Recently, Hondurans experienced great political turmoil with the ousting of then President Manuel Zelaya. The country remained divided for months but peace seems to be in the near future with the election of new President Porfirio Lobo. Hondurans are putting the past behind them and getting on with life. They are generally laid-back people and disinclined to make much to-do over politics and world affairs.
The People

Over two thousand years of history are richly displayed in Honduras’ numerous Mayan archaeological sites and vestiges of early Spanish colonialism. As a result of this diverse history, the Honduran people are an ethnic mix of Native Indian, Spanish and other nationalities. The Hondurans are friendly in nature but are socially uneducated due to their poor status. Honduras still remains as one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere region that is reliant basically on U. S. aid. Overall, Hondurans are friendly, curious to foreigners, sometimes shy, but almost always cordial and helpful.
The Need

Although the capital city of Tegucigalpa seems to be a thriving, modern city, there is something missing in the lives of Hondurans. They might know Jesus is God’s Son and that He died on the cross, but knowing who Jesus is, isn’t what saves us. By inviting Jesus to be Lord of your life and accepting that through His shed blood you can have forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven; THAT is what saves us. Having partial truth is almost worse than having no truth at all. They are deceived by the Catholic church into believing that salvation can be attained by what they can do and not by what Christ has already done. They believe they have the answers, but in all actuality they will be the people described in Matthew 7:21-23. We must go and reveal the Gospel Truth to these lost souls. Who will tell them of God’s free gift of salvation? We want to fill that void but we need your prayers and financial support.
John 17:17-18
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth, As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.”
